Furnace Installation
If you were among the San Diego homeowners who noticed a significant increase in their monthly energy bill this year, one reason may be low furnace efficiency. Older furnaces ultimately reach the end of their useful lives, at which point you will need residential heating service to install a new furnace to keep your San Diego home at a comfortable temperature.
Cost Considerations with New Furnace Install
Replacing a furnace with a newer model requires a professional HVAC contractor to conduct the installation and set up. Several components should be considered when estimating the cost of the installation process in addition to just the price of the new furnace.
- Thermostat: Different furnace brands and models may require a certain thermostat, and may be incompatible with your current thermostat. If your thermostat has to be replaced, you will have to pay the additional cost.
- Additional Electrical Wiring: If the electrical supply line needs to be updated to meet the requirements of your new furnace, be prepared to repaint a wall or two.
- Ducts might need to be repaired or replaced, depending on the furnace you plan to install. Having a high efficiency furnace makes no sense if the ductwork is bad or in need of repair.
Maintain Furnace Filter to Prevent Future Furnace Installs
The best way you can prolong the quality and life of your new furnace unit is to replace the filter at least once per season with an allergen reduction filter. This will also help keep your allergies to a minimum and indoor air quality at a healthy level.
- Check the face of the furnace for dust particles. Clean the area in front of furnace before removing the filter.
- Locate the service panel on the lower front side.
- Turn off furnace.
- Locate and remove the filter.
- Rinse the reusable plastic frame and filter with a water hose. (Or replace the cardboard kind with a new one from any home maintenance store).
- Dry the clean filter.
- Attach the clean filter back where it belongs.
Most Efficient Furnaces to Install
Heating and cooling are responsible for a bulk of the energy used in your San Diego home. Furnace installation may make a major difference in your utility bill if you install a more efficient model. The best furnaces are those that carry an energy star rating, as these furnaces will control your heating costs and do not produce as much carbon dioxide. You can expect to save up to 30% on energy costs with an efficient furnace install..
